Changes to South Bay MLS

For as long as I've been in real estate ( starting in '79).. the numbering system for the local areas has been the same. Area 42 is the Sand Section of Manhattan Beach... Area 31 is West High in Torrance... Area 28 is the Hollywood Riviera..

For those of you who have taken advantage of IDX searches from a local website to search the Greater South Bay MLS you have also gotten comfortable with these numbers to define local areas. However that is soon to be changed.

Sometime this month the numbering system will change from a two digit system to a three digit system. There will also be some new boundary changes to the search areas. This means that area 42 will now be 142... maybe.. Until the system actually goes online we don't know what the changes will be.

I suspect that much of the reason for change is that many local MLS systems are looking into the possibility of merging with larger systems and the little ones will need to make some changes to join the big boys. It appears that CLAW which is the West LA system will also change the numbering for its areas.. which could be very confusing.. so I'm guessing there will be a few more changes then the MLS is stating.

I'll post more on this as I find out further information..
