If you are 55+ and looking for something small ( studio unit about 530 sqft) then The Gables may have an opportunity for you. I was at he complex on Friday and they have lowered the prices on their remaining studio units. I thinkj there are 10 or so left.
These are small but very nice studios with a nice kitchen area including some stainless appliances and decent baths. The units have a small patio and an area set off for a bed.... that is not in the living area. Parking is the drawback at this point and they are negotiating with the Marriott to use some of their parking.
The good news is the prices are now under $200,000 for the remaining units. If you are 55+ need someplace for visiting family or if you are in the area 3-4 days a week for business and are tired of hotels this may be a welcome change.
This is the Balboa which is the floorplan I saw.. I believe the Avalon which is very similar is the other floorplan. At $199,000 for new construction in Torrance this looks like a good deal.
