Happy 4th of July!









July 4th Events in the Beach Cities and Palos Verdes Peninsula:


El Segundo:


Daytime events, including a water balloon toss, sack races and pie-eating contest, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Recreation Park, followed by live music from 5-9 p.m. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. The park is at 401 Sheldon St. To buy wristbands for grandstand seats and resident priority seating, call 310-524-2700.



Palos Verdes Estates:

The Palos Verdes Independence Day Committee will hold its 51st July 4th event at Malaga Cove School, 300 Paseo del Mar, Palos Verdes Estates. The free event starts at 9:30 a.m. and will feature live patriotic music, a decorated children's bicycle parade, a puppet show, apple pie contest and games. This year's guest speaker is Richard Riordan, former mayor of Los Angeles and former state secretary of education. For more: pvjuly4.org



Redondo Beach:

Seaside Lagoon at 200 Portofino Way will  host an event to paying ticketholders. Festivities start at 2 p.m. and will include food, arts and crafts, puppet shows, a kids parade, live music, swimming, science displays, paddleboard races, and a demonstration U.S. Coast Guard helicopter rescue.

Rancho Palos Verdes:

The city's 37th annual Independence Day celebration will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Upper Point Vicente Park at 30940 Hawthorne Blvd. The event will feature music by the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band and a country band, arts and crafts, rides, games, hula hoop contests, a petting zoo, helicopter rides and more. Admission is free, and a complimentary shuttle will run from the Hawthorne Boulevard Ralphs store to the lot adjacent the Point Vicente Lighthouse on Palos Verdes Drive West. On-site parking costs $5 per vehicle.
