Redondo Beach Homes: Sold 2005-2007

South Redondo:Classic Homes on the Avenues

If Hermosa Beach is Manhattan Beach's little sister then Redondo Beach is the lovely older sister. Redondo Beach was a hot spot resort destination when Manhattan Beach was still a few cottages along the Red Car tracks on the way to the famous Redondo Pier.

The Avenues in South Redondo still have some lovely Victorian, Craftsman and Spanish Revival homes. The Redondo Beach Historical Society features these graceful homes on their home tour each year. These homes are all that is left of Old Redondo. Sadly in the 1960's the City Council decided to tear down the original downtown along the water ( Catalina/ Torrance Blvd/ Esplanade) and allow developers to build condos in it's place. I believe this is a decision many now regret.

North Redondo has long been considered the entry level for buyers who want a home not too far from the water but can't afford Manhattan, Hermosa, South Redondo or El Segundo. The North Redondo townhome is often the bellwether for the health of the Beach Cities' real estate market. So far while prices have declined from the hot real estate market of 2005; North Redondo doesn't appear to be in real trouble. That's good news for all the Beach Cities.

South Redondo is far more affordable the either Manhattan or Hermosa when it comes to homes near the water. As South Redondo is farther from general freeway access it is also less crowded then its sister cities of Manhattan or Hermosa. You can buy a new home or ocean view townhome for quite a bit less money then in either Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach... you just have to be willing to travel the extra 15-20 minutes to the freeway.
